INTERESTING DOG FACTS

Have you ever wondered how many times a minute your dogs heart beats, or how many breaths per minute they take, what their temperature should be, or even how old your friend is in dog years?  Well here are some answers to your questions.

Temperature

A dogs normal temperature ranges from 99.5 to 102.2 Fahrenheit.  An excited or nervous dog might have an elevated temperature, but it should not exceed 103.5.

How  to take your dogs pulse

With you dog standing, or lying on its back, feel along the inside of the thigh where the leg joins the body.  Press with your fingers until you locate the pulse.  You can also take a dog's pulse by pressing against the rib cage over its heart.  Feel the heartbeat just below the elbow joint.

Respiratory Rate

Adult dog average is 24 breaths per min, at rest: range is 10 to 30 breaths per minute

Newborn puppy: 15 to 35 breaths per minute up to 2 weeks of age
